Creating My First Reel: An Experience & Challenge

What even is a “reel?” – How can they be used for marketing?

A reel is a form of quick entertainment. Reels can either be short or long and are commonly found throughout the social media platform, Instagram. Reels are used to spread information, encourage mass communication, increase traffic to a profile and promote products and businesses. When it comes to reels, you can be as creative as you’d like. The feature on instagram lets you either edit your own reel inside of the application, or pull in your own video edited in a third party editor but still be able to edit it there.

Why should you care about reels?

  • One of the most popular posting strategies on instagram
  • Views & exposure almost immediately guaranteed
  • Great for engaging your audience
  • Allow for polls: to get your audience interacting with your content
  • Can be very simple but also very complex

Take a look at this reel by CeraVe to serve as an example.

Now…who is “QuickTune?”

QuickTune reached out to GraphixPulse and introduced themselves as a relatively new company that has just started selling their products online. The products they produce are remotes; but with a twist. Their remotes contain only the essential features on every remote.

What sets QuickTune apart from the competition is their key feature: the six customizable buttons on the bottom of the remote. These buttons can be used to program streaming services or television channels, and anything in between. The best part is that customers would only have to do this one time in their life.

“The one stop remote for all of your surfing needs.”

QuickTune’s Value proposition

“A simplified, easy to use fully programmable remote designed to make your channel surfing easier than ever. Navigate quickly with QuickTune.”

Key words to note:
  1. Easy to use
  2. Quick
  3. Simple
  4. Convenient
What were their challenges?

The QuickTune company as a whole wasn’t performing how they wanted it to and notified us about the following issues they were having:

  • Lack of growth on their Instagram account
  • Low conversion rates on their website
  • A lack of business to consumer engagement
Our Research shows… Marketing issues!

After analyzing QuickTune’s current Instagram page, we found that the following reasons were why they were facing those issues:

  • Inconsistent content posting schedule
  • Low quality, static posts
  • Lack of C2A buttons, hashtags, captions, comments, etc.
solution and production steps

First, we talked to their team coordinator about their product, what it does, the key features, why it was created, what makes them different and other essential questions. After that, we came up with ideas on how they could improve their content. The end result was: reels! Short, interactive, engaging videos.

We first created a rough sketch of the reel we had in mind, with notes added for better understanding. QuickTune loved the overall concept of it but they wanted:

  1. More creativity
  2. More movement
  3. More information about the product

After getting their feedback on the idea, we decided to create a more visual plan of the reel so they could get a better understanding. We even included more notes on each frame of the reel. On this step, we completely laid out the plan for the reel.

Let’s take a look at outcome

Overall, QuickTune loved the reel that they were provided with from Graphix Pulse so much that they decided they want to continue working with us to create more of their content. It’s important to note that we explicitly helped them with the following…

  • Growth in post engagement (likes, comments, shares)
  • Growth in their audience (followers and regular likers + commenters)
  • 50% more sales in the first month of the reel being live
  • Higher communication, brainstorming, team work and great & creative ideas being spread around the workplace
